Great Space for Girls (G.S.G.)
at Barclay Elementary School
Nothing can hold you back, not even gravity.![]() Mae C Jemison, first AA woman in space
See gallery below for images and video of pilot program. An exciting new program being pioneered by Ami Kumordzie and other passionate students at Hopkins. We all share a love of science and a fascination with the world around us, and we are interested in mentoring the next generation of future scientists, engineers, doctors, etc. The aims of this camp are to raise interest in science, engineering, and technical fields among underrepresented groups and females. As a special twist we have tailored the topics of this camp to relate to modern space exploration and discovery, to cultivate the idea that nothing can hold them back/keep them down, not even gravity. As part of this camp, we will also engage in a meaningful dialogue in which we explore the unique challenges overcome by women who choose a career in science. Female professors will explain why they chose their path, and we hope that by allowing multiple generations of female scientists, engineers, and technologists to come together (from middle school to accomplished professionals) there will be a mutual benefit felt by all groups. |
